Migrating Grades to Canvas
We make migrating grades to Canvas easy so you don’t have extra burden at the end of a busy semester.
Step 0: Add assignments in Canvas
Your grades from FeatureBench need to go somewhere in Canvas, so (if you haven’t already), create an assignment in Canvas for each assignment in FeatureBench.
Step 1: Export a gradebook from Canvas
This may sounds backwards, but for the first step, we require you to export a full gradebook from Canvas.
Log into Canvas, go to the Grades page, click Export, and select Export Entire Gradebook. This will download a .csv file including existing assignments and students.
Step 2: Upload the Canvas gradebook to FeatureBench
In FeatureBench, visit the gradebook page, and click the “Export for Canvas” button. In section 1, upload your new CSV file from Canvas.
Your Canvas gradebook file is private and safe: We do not ever send your Canvas gradebook to our server, so we never process or save any data from the gradebook.
Step 3: Match students
You will be shown a table of students you have in FeatureBench and students you have in the Canvas export. We will do our best to match students by name, but sometimes we are unable to match students (spelling differences, preferred name differences etc). In these cases, the row will be highlighted yellow, and you will have the opportunity to manually match any students we could not automatically connect.
Not all students are required to be connected, but only grades from connected students will be exported.
Step 4: Match assignments
Similar to matching students, we will attempt to match assignments between what we have in FeatureBench and what you have in Canvas. If we are unable to match an assignment, you can manually connect them.
Not all assignments are required to be connected, but only grades from connected assignments will be exported.
Step 5: Export your data
Once you finalize the export settings, a CSV file will be downloaded to your computer. Take this new CSV file (ending in -featurebench.csv) and upload it to Canvas.
